I’ve been pondering this concept since February 14th of 2022. Why is it that intellectuals and pastors are taken out first in times of war? Not because they are ruminating on the Truth, but because they are sharing what they come to understand with the everyday people who are supposed to be under the slave-mind of the state. And why does the truth act as such a deadly weapon? Because:

There is No such thing as a white lie.

There is No such thing as a necessary evil.

In Tolstoy’s War and Peace, those who would resort to escapism were able to justify the atrocities performed at their own hands to being a “necessary evil” of war. There is only one antidote to this: the truth that it was not the Roman Soldiers or Pharisees or Judas that put Christ on the cross. I did. And we must each come to that humbling reality.

What I find in these times is that people are starved for deep conversation - everywhere I go, the grocery store, value village, the hockey arena - because, while we may be breathing, walking and talking, it is not life without the truth.

Great writing Ben. It would seem that building and fighting are happening in tandem here.
